poker chips
sillygoose08 asked:

I’m thinking about getting my boyfriend a nice, mahagony poker chip case with his initials carved on top, and poker chips. But I don’t know how many would be a good number to order….. 100? 500? HELP?!?

assuming they are coming in different chip denominations 500 chips is about the amount you would need for an 8 player game which is about the norm so 500 - 700 would be the best amount.

you could always skip the chips and get him a larger case, say one that holds about 750. that way he could always get the chips that he likes (there are waaay too many types, colors weights ect…). anyways just a thought.

Most sets you look at are going to be 500 or so, and that’s good because, you want that many.

It is not uncommon to have 10 people at a poker table, and with 100 chips that would only be 10 each. Far too few.

I would suggest you look on Amazon.com and see what’s out there.

The only problem I have with your idea is that poker players often have a very good idea in their head of what poker chips they want, and there is a good chance that you will pick the wrong ones.

Poker chips are not all the same, they can be made of numerous different materials, from plastic, clay, composite, with metal inserts or without. And weights that vary from 5-7g right up to 14g or so. Then there are a massive variety of different designs too, different denominations, colors, and patterns. Different themes, logos etc.

Honestly, it’s a bewildering selection. And it sounds like you don’t know a lot about poker chips. So the odds are not great that you could pick exactly what he is looking for.

But you can’t go wrong with a nice poker chip case (since chips are pretty much all a standard size). And you could get a set of Copag cards (again on Amazon), which are one of the best plastic cards in the world as opposed to the cheap kinds you buy in the store.
